Text of Sicut Cervus

Sicut cervus desiderat ad fontes aquarum

ita desiderat anima mea ad te Deus.

Fuerunt mihi lacrimae meae panis die ac nocte.

Quare tristis anima mea et quare conturbas me?

Spera in Deo quoniam confitebor illa

salutare vultus mei et Deus meus.

As the deer thirsts for streams of water

so does my soul thirst for you.

My tears have been my bread day and night.

Why are you so sad, my soul, and why are you so troubled within me?

Place your hope in God for I will still praise Him:

The salvation of my countenance, and my God.
