Frammenti was completed in 1983 on a commission
from Ellen Wassermann, and revised in 1990. The title, which translates
as "fragments," refers to both the structure and materials of
the work. The piece is structured as a series of short, contrasting episodes
that range in mood from agitated to lyrical to majestic; and the harmonies,
particularly in the agitated passages, are built up from small chordal
"fragments" into massive, dissonant sonorities covering a wide
range of the keyboard.
Frammenti is gratefully dedicated to Ellen Wassermann.
