EXPECTAVI DOMINUM is a setting, in Latin, of verses 1-3 and
11 of Psalm 40.
It is both a prayer for God's help in times of trouble and
a praise for his mercy and faithfulness.
EXPECTAVI DOMINUM was written especially for the Chamber
Singers of California State University Hayward, and is dedicated to David
Stein, conductor of the choir and "a most excellent friend and
colleague."
This performance took place on April 12, 2003 by the
Chamber Singers of Central Washington University
Karyl Carlson,

Expectans expectavi Dominum: et indendit mihi et exaudivit
preces meas. Et exudit me de lacu miseriae et de luto fecis. Et statuit super petram pedes meos et direxit gressus meus. Et inmisit os meum canticum novum Carmen Deo nostro. Videbunt multi et timebunt et sperabunt in Domino. Tu autem Dominum ne longe facias miserationes tuas a me; misericordia
tua et veritas tua semper susceperunt me. Amen. |

I waited patiently for the Lord: he turned to me and heard my
cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire. He set my feet on rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put in my mouth a new song, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord. Do not withhold your mercy from me, O Lord; may your love and
truth always protect me. Amen. |
